The Golf Experience at Radnor Valley Country Club
Radnor Valley is a challenging par 70 layout. There is a premium on accuracy with tee shots as well as approach shots. Errant tee shots may find the numerous trees lining each fairway or one of the many water hazards on the back nine. Loose iron shots into the greens will make "ups and downs" a difficult task due to the undulating greens. Although a long ball is not necessary, Radnor has six par-fours over 400 yards in length.
"Bill Gordon carried out a sweeping makeover of the original layout."
Originally designed by Dick Wilson with the assistance of X. G. Hassenplug, the course opened in 1953. In the mid-60's, Bill Gordon carried out a sweeping makeover of the original layout. The new course was unveiled in 1968. In the mid-90's, Ault Clark and Associates was brought in to further update the course to create one of the finest and most enjoyable courses in the area. Today's course opened in 1998 and has continued to be “fine-tuned” each year. Radnor Valley has a talented staff of golf professionals led by George Forster who is now in his 31st year of service. George has won or placed high in many regional PGA events. A well stocked pro shop and availability of professionals for lessons complements our driving range and short-game practice facilities.
Welcome to our course! Radnor Valley boasts one of the finest private 18-hole championship golf courses in the Philadelphia area. Two major renovations featuring multiple tee placements, new greens, sand traps, water features, mature trees, plantings and hardscaping, new cart-paths and electric carts, driving range and practice facilities combine to provide a beautiful and challenging golf experience for all levels of play.
Radnor Valley Country Club was recently re-rated by the USGA. Every golf course receives both a USGA Course Rating and a USGA Slope Rating for each set of tees. The rating established for the scratch golfer is known as the Course Rating. There is also a rating for players other than scratch known as the Slope Rating. The USGA Course and Slope ratings are calculated by the Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP) every 7-10 years.
Radnor Valley's new ratings are testament to the challenging nature of the golf course.
